Canadian rider Doug DeHaan has he plans set for 2002. Doug will be competing in the 2002 Canadian
Nationals aboard a Honda CRF450. With
Doug be on the injured reserve of late since the Toronto Arenacross information
has been scarce but Doug was glad to let fans and the industry know what he’s
up to.

Doug VRM knows you haven’t raced in a while, why?
Doug DeHaan:
Well, my last race was the Toronto Arenacross and during
the race my shoulder didn’t feel right so I went to the doc to get it checked
out.
VRM:
What were the results with the meeting with the doc?
Doug DeHaan:
He said my shoulder had a slight tear in it and that
eventually I should get it fixed. He
said if it feels OK and strengthens up I could ride. He did tell me a perfect hit on the shoulder
would knock it out of place.
VRM:
With that advise what decisions did you make about the
2002 season.
Doug DeHaan:
I took some time off and rehabbed my shoulder. I didn’t want to miss the 2002 Canadian
session if possible. After rehab my
shoulder feels stronger and doesn’t bother me when I ride. I have tentatively schedule surgery for
mid September to get it corrected as suggested. If something happens during the year I’ll just move the surgery
up.
VRM:
Have you ridden and tested it out.
Doug DeHaan:
Yes I have. I’ve
been riding for a week and a half and everything feels great. I’ve been riding some really gnarly sand
tracks and all is good.
VRM:
Speaking of riding what are you riding this year?
Doug DeHaan:
I’ll be riding a Honda CR450F and love it. When I first rode it last year I knew it
was a bike I wanted to ride in 2002.
VRM:
Who will you be riding for?
Doug DeHaan:
This year I’ll be riding for Diablo Honda out of Montreal
Canada. I will be competing in the
250cc class. My teammates look to be
Marco Dube (250cc) and Matt Maximoff (125cc).
VRM:
Who is Diablo?
Doug DeHaan:
They are a huge paint ball company, which also backs the
Montreal Honda shop.
VRM:
What are some of your other sponsors?
Doug DeHaan:
I will be in either Thor or Fox gear, Oakley goggles and
Alpinestars or Fox boots. I would
like to mention VRM for supporting my web site.
VRM:
What number will you be running in the Canadian Nationals?
Doug DeHaan:
#18.
VRM:
When will you be racing next?
Doug DeHaan:
I will be racing at the Dunes this weekend in Ontario
Canada.
VRM:
Will you be riding and US SX or US Nationals?
Doug DeHaan:
I really wanted to ride the Pontiac SX race but using
discretion I will sit this race out.
I need to look at the long term this year and that’s riding well in
the Canadian nationals. I would like
to ride a few US Nationals (Mt. Morris, and the last couple of races).
VRM:
Will you be in Pontiac to watch?
Doug DeHaan:
It’s so hard to go to a race and watch when you know you
should be on the track. It’s really
tough sitting in the stands. I may
show up though.
VRM:
Doug, the throttle is on the right.
Doug DeHaan:
That advice will be warranted this summer. Thanks.
